Aquamarine is the birthstone for March. Its name come from the Latin for seawater and it was said to keep sailors safe at sea. Aquamarine is a blue-green variety of the mineral beryl and can form in very large crystals. Its color is caused by iron oxides within the crystal. It has been said that wearers of Aquamarine will be triumphant against their foes, quicken ones intellect, and encourages compassion and tolerance. Its chemical formula is Be₃Al₂(Si₁₆O₁₈).
